A dark, finely ribbed street elevation that opens into a bright internal courtyard – the whole house turns inward.
A tight urban plot. Privacy is resolved by presenting a closed, vertically screened face to the street and placing every living space around a courtyard behind it.
Closed to the street by design.
Vertical battens run the full length of the street elevation, broken only by the entrance and the address. The screening is dense enough to read as solid from the pavement while still passing air and light.
Dark outside, light and colour inside.
The exterior palette is held to one dark tone, so the ribbing reads purely as texture and shadow. Nothing competes with it.
The courtyard reverses that entirely: pale surfaces, planting and colour in the loose furniture. The contrast between arrival and interior is the project’s main move.
The batten spacing was resolved in visualization, where the shadow it casts could actually be judged.
