Deep beams and heavy piers hold the living level above the tree line, so the house is occupied at canopy height.
A vegetated site where clearing was kept to a minimum. The structure lifts the main floor clear of the bush, and everything below stays as it was.

Rather than platform the site, the house is carried on a small number of large piers. Existing planting runs underneath and up to the structure, and the approach passes through it before rising.
Structure as the architecture.
The beams and piers are left expressed at full depth. They frame every view out and set the rhythm of the plan – there is no secondary language layered over them.
Between the structure, the enclosure is as light as it can be: glazing, dark screens and timber, held back from the structural line so the frame always reads first.
Visualisation set the pier spacing against the trees that were being kept, before any were marked for removal.
